Where is Surfside Beach, SC?

Surfside Beach is a coastal town directly south of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The area has its origins dating back to the founding of our country as the Ark Plantation, deeded to John Tilman. The original plantation home, on 3rd avenue south and Willow dr until demolished in the early 1960s. After the Civil War, it became known as Roaches’ beach, surviving the hurricane of 1893 and the infamous hurricane Hazel in 1954. However, it wasn't until 1964 that it was incorporated into the town of Surfside Beach. Since then it has been the embodiment of what a beach town should be. Nicknamed the “Family Beach”, Surfside Beach lives up to it’s moniker by hosting an environment that is wholesome, inclusive, and safe. For over the last half century, Surfside Beach has been a laid back home for some of the most beautiful beaches on earth. Surfside Beach is a great place to start looking for your next home. 

What and Where to Eat in Surfside Beach SC

While visiting Surfside Beach, be sure to stop by one of the many local restaurants including Dagwoods Deli and Sports Bar, Fat Jacks, Malibu Italian Restaurant, Crabby Mike’s, and more.  Dagwoods Deli and Bar is a great local hangout if you are looking for a great meal with the family or just to meet some friends for a few drinks after work. Locally owned and operated, it has been whipping up some of the best deli specialties such as the “Jogger” and the “Dagwood” along with a whole variety of great menu offerings. The pub atmosphere is a welcoming change to the turn-and-burn predictable chain food establishment. If you are looking for the traditional “calabash” style buffet, Crabby Mike’s is the place to go. On the buffet menu is all you can eat crab legs- so make sure to bring an appetite! 

Surfside Beach Schools

Home buyers with school age children are serviced by the Horry County public school district. These schools providing education in Surfside Beach are Seaside Elementary, Lakewood Elementary, Forestbrook Middle School, St James Middle School, St James High School, and Socastee High School. Along with these highly rated public schools, there is a variety of private and charter schools offered in the area as well as pre-k child care. 

Surfside Beach Annual BBQ festival 

Located in the Yaupon Parking Lot near 3rd ave south in Surfside Beach, this annual event hosts BBQ vendors in a competition for the “Best BBQ; along with craft and informational vendors as well as games and face painting for the kids. Admission is free. Don’t forget its companion event - the “Anything but BBQ”. Previous winners included Smoking Down South and The BBQ House. This is definitely a must attend event for any BBQ lover!

Wild Water and Wheels is a 16 acre water park with over 30 rides including high speed flumes, wave pool, and a lazy river. Along with the water park, there is also a food court, shower facilities, mini golf, bumper boats, and go carts. Admission is about $27 for those 48” or taller and $17 for those under 48”. At Wild Water and Wheels, there’s plenty of fun for the whole family to enjoy. 

If you aren't interested in a day at the park, Surfside has some of the best beaches in the Grand Strand. You can lay out and work on a tan; enjoy splashing in the waves; or even take a Surf Lesson from the Surf Dreams Foundation, the number one surf camp on the Grand Strand. These lessons are an hour long and run about $65; additional information can be found at their website 

After purchasing a Surfside Beach Home for sale, you have quick and easy access to Murrells Inlet, and its famous Marsh Walk. The Marsh Walk is a short 10 minute drive and has some of the best seafood restaurants the area has to offer. After a great meal of local seafood, there are plenty of bars and restaurants availing the best local live music on the Grand Strand almost any night or time of year.
